Insurance 101: What to Know Before Your Visit to Little Lake Family Eye Care

mother and daughter an eye exam

At Little Lake Family Eye Care, we know that understanding how insurance works can feel overwhelming. One of the most common topics patients ask us about is vision insurance—what’s covered, what’s not, and how payments work. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to answer your most frequently asked questions about insurance coverage and payment options at our practice.

Whether you're scheduling your first appointment or you're a returning patient, we want you to feel confident and informed about your visit.

Which Vision Insurance Plans Do You Accept?

We proudly accept a wide range of vision insurance plans to help make your care more affordable. While coverage can vary, some of the most common plans we work with include:

  • VSP (Vision Service Plan)
  • EyeMed
  • Spectera
  • Davis Vision
  • Blue View Vision
  • Superior Vision
  • And more!

If you don’t see your plan listed or if you’re not sure whether we accept it, no problem—just give our office a call. We’re happy to look up your benefits and help you understand what your insurance covers.

What If You Don’t Accept My Insurance?

If we don’t currently work with your insurance plan, you still have several options:

  1. Out-of-Network Benefits – Some insurance plans will reimburse you for services even if you're seen out-of-network. We can provide you with a detailed invoice to submit to your insurance provider.
  2. Paying Out of Pocket – Many of our services are affordably priced, and we’re happy to discuss costs upfront.
  3. HSA and FSA Funds – Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) can often be used to cover eye exams, glasses, and contacts.

Our goal is to ensure you receive the care you need without financial stress.

How Do Copays Work?

A copay is a fixed amount you pay at the time of service, depending on your insurance plan. For example, your plan may fully cover an annual eye exam but require a $20 copay at check-in. The exact amount varies based on your provider and specific policy.

We’ll always let you know your expected copay ahead of your appointment so you’re never caught off guard.

What Other Payment Options Are Available?

In addition to insurance, we offer several flexible payment methods to accommodate your needs:

  • Cash, check, or credit card
  • FSA and HSA cards
  • Third-party financing options (ask us for details)
  • In-office promotions or discounts for non-insured patients
  • We’re happy to work with you to find a solution that fits your budget.

Common Insurance Issues to Be Aware Of

Here are a few important things to keep in mind when using vision insurance:

  • Coverage is often limited to one exam per year. Be sure to check when your last covered visit was.
  • Eyewear benefits may be separate – Some plans cover glasses or contact lenses, but not both in the same benefit period.
  • Preauthorization may be needed – Certain medical eye conditions might require additional approval.

If you're ever unsure, just ask! Our team is always here to walk you through the details and make the process easy.

At Little Lake Family Eye Care, your peace of mind matters just as much as your vision. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage, feel free to give us a call. We’re always happy to help you understand your benefits, explore your options, and make the most of your visit.

Let us take the guesswork out of insurance, so you can focus on seeing clearly.
